In Africa, football is more than just a sport—it’s a unifying force like no other that brings together the different cultures of the continent. Total has a significant presence in Africa, with 10,000 employees working in 44 countries, and is thrilled to share the passion of the continent’s favorite sport through its partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
TotalEnergies and CAF signed a multi-year sponsorship deal in 2016, making the TotalEnergies Group, the partner of African football for eight years. Following the agreement signed in October 2016, TotalEnergies became the title sponsor of 10 competitions—seven national competitions and three inter-club competitions, starting with the Total Africa Cup of Nations held in Gabon in 2017.
As part of the agreement, TotalEnergies will sponsor more than 1,500 matches. It will notably be the title sponsor of the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. Renamed Total Africa Cup of Nations as part of the sponsorship deal, Total AFCON is Africa’s largest event and the world’s third largest international football competition, after the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship.
Confederation of African Football
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is the governing body of African football. It was founded by four countries, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and South Africa, during the 30th FIFA congress held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1957. Today, with 54 member associations, CAF is the largest of the six continental confederations of FIFA. The CAF headquarters is based in Cairo, Egypt. http://www.cafonline.com/
